Thanks for your support of THE FLOOD benefit concert, as we work together to raise funds to benefit communities in Puerto Rico in their ongoing recovery from the Sept. 2017 hurricane. Even if you will not be able join us for this special performance in NYC, please consider making a contribution to our goal! We hope to raise at least $3000 and if possible exceed that amount to have an even bigger impact!
Here's the story of another community that recovered from a natural disaster: During the summer of 1993, the American Midwest experienced the most devastating flood in national history, as the Mississippi River and its tributaries overflowed their banks. On August 1, the levee broke near Columbia, Illinois, submerging the small town of Valmeyer. Peter Mills' and Cara Reichel's original musical THE FLOOD, inspired by this story of a town that rebuilt itself on higher ground, dramatizes one fictionalized community's battle with nature, and its struggle to rebuild.
Prospect Theater Company, in partnership with Debbie Slevin's greymatters productions, is proud to present a one night concert of this musical on Saturday night, Sept. 8, 2018 in NYC at the TimesCenter. A cast of Broadway and Prospect stars will be joined by a chorus of more than 30 singers from the area surrounding Valmeyer, which was so impacted by flooding 25 years ago.
The message of THE FLOOD is one of hope, and the power of what can happen when communities come together to create positive change. We hope to raise significant funds through this benefit concert to help speed our friends in Puerto Rico on their recovery process. Thanks for any amount you can contribute to support!
